Marquette
is a small town located in McPherson County in central Kansas. It is situated between the K-4 and the Smoky Hill River. As of the 2000 census, the population of Marquette was 542 residents. Although small, the town of Marquette has a lot oto offer visitors. The downtown area has a block of stores from the late 1800s that have been restored and repainted to their original colors. They are part of the Washington Street Historic District, which is a state historic site. Marquette is also home to Hanson-Lindfors Home, a sixteen-room Victorian house built in 1888. It is named after Hans Hanson, one of the city founders, and has been restored to its original appearance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located in the backyard of the home is Hansons original 1871 wood frame cabin, where the city charter was signed. The Kansas Motorcycle Museum is located in downtown Marquette on North Washington Street and was founded in 2004 by National Racing Champion, Stan the Man Engdahl, a native of Marquette. Kanopolis State Park, which was the first state park of Kansas, is only ten miles away. This 22,000-acre park is set among rolling hills, bluffs and woodlands and includes a 3,000-acre lake for fishing and 25 miles of hiking trails.

Central Kansas has a humid continental climate. Over the course of a year, temperatures range from an average low of 15 degrees F. in January to an average high of nearly 93 degrees F. in July. The temperature falls below the freezing point an average of 188 days per year. Typically the first fall freeze occurs between the last week of September and the end of October, and the last spring freeze occurs between the first week of April and early May. The area receives 35 inches of precipitation per year, with the most in May and June. Snow depth of at least one inch occurs an average of 20 days per year. Severe weather is possible, in the form of thunderstorms and tornadoes. Thunderstorms may produce large hail and lightening.
