Sedan is located in Chautauqua County in the wooded hills of southeast Kansas. It is the county seat and largest city in Chautauqua County, situated on US 166 and K-99. The estimated population is 1,222 residents. Sedan is known for having the longest Yellow Brick Road in the world. This Yellow Brick Road circles the entire downtown area, with over 11,350 bricks sold, representing every state in the United States and 28 foreign countries. Names on the Yellow Brick Road include individuals, schools and organizations, veterans and celebrities. A special recognition brick has been given to Sedans sister city of Sedan, France. Farming, ranching, and petroleum are all important parts of the local economy, but in recent years tourism has also become more significant. Over 50,000 visitors come each year to enjoy the scenery and attractions of the area that many call the Kansas Ozarks. Sedan is also home to the Emmett Kelly Museum, which honors the towns native son, the famed circus clown. The Emmett Kelly Museum is home to a mix of local memorabilia along with a few Kelly-related items, but the main attraction is the worlds largest collection of commemorative Jim Beam bottles, donated by a couple who once took them on tour.
